The Patient Community Liaison Microgrant was created to help patient ambassadors lead grassroots and community efforts to advance awareness, treatment and prevention of vascular diseases, including Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD).

The Patient Community Liaison Microgrant has been awarded to Kim Campbell, RN. Her project focus is on educating her community in Atlanta and hometown of Greenville, Mississippi, about PAD with the goal of decreasing and potentially preventing amputations that result when the disease goes untreated. Kim helped care for her mother, Gertrude, whose PAD, despite great health insurance and frequent check-ups, went undiagnosed for many years and ultimately resulted in the amputation of both legs. Gertrude tirelessly raised awareness of the disease in her community and before Congress and now Kim is carrying on with the work. She says “I am passionate about continuing her legacy; as well as starting one of my own…this project (has the potential to be) very meaningful to the community by decreasing and possibly preventing the occurrence of amputations with research and early intervention.”
