Patients are Partners

This initiative provides lay-person friendly education and awareness for patients, caregivers, and the public, as well as  supports their engagement in science. It is an essential bridge between academic vascular research and community-based patient care, uniquely positioned to deliver patient-centric innovation through deep, authentic patient engagement.

One of our Core Values is to partner with patients in all that we do.

We ensure that our priorities and Our Board and Advisory Board include patients, all our grant review committees include patients, and we require and steward patient engagement in all the research projects that we support.

Community Engagement Initiatives

Health Equity: For Patients, With Patients

Patient Engagement Toolkits

Part of our Vascular Health Equity Academy, the Foundation to Advance Vascular Cures has developed evidence-based toolkits to facilitate patient engagement in research.

This work has been done in partnership with patients and caregivers who are uniquely positioned to design the user experience for these resources. Check out these toolkits to learn about strategies and lessons learned in engagement of patient partners.

Multi-Modal Patient Engagement

Patient and Stakeholder Engagement

We develop culturally tailored research toolkits and educational materials to support research engagement. We are proud of our recent work with Chinese-speaking patients and families, funded by the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute.

Patients as Research Partners

We meaningfully involve patients in research design and implementation.

We have 8 ongoing research projects driven by patient-identified priorities.

Patient Advisory Leadership
We facilitate patient advisory task forces that directly influence clinical guidelines and research priorities.
Community Support Network
Our partner PAD Walking, Exercise, and Wellness Support Facebook group provides a community for patients to receive support, education, and resources.
Community Health Screening
We engaged 1000+ community members through hands-on CHAMPIONS health screenings. This includes providing extensive educational resources to screening participants.
Educational Resources

We have 25+ flyers and 10+ interactive educational modules. These are available to the public for free. Patients and clinicians have reviewed and advised on all materials, ensuring accuracy and lay accessibility.

Culturally Responsive Education

Our multi-language, culturally responsive educational approaches offer templates for national campaigns.
