Announcing the Award Recipients

The Foundation to Advance Vascular Cures is pleased to announce the recipients of this year’s 2025 Collaborative Patient-Centric Research and Frederick M. Binkley Awards, two grants designed to foster innovative, early-stage research that harnesses digital health and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve vascular care. These projects, which relate to the discussions at the 2024 Vascular Health Innovation Summit, will advance patient-centered vascular research and have the potential to reshape clinical outcomes through novel digital solutions.

We are honored to introduce the awardees:

• Frederick M. Binkley Award: The team led by Dr. Jade Hiramoto, Dr. Robert Chang, and Dr. Colleen Flanagan as a 2025 Frederick M. Binkley Research Awardee for their project, “Improving Surveillance for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms Using Large Language Models.” The team aims to improve vascular care by using AI tools to extract aortic information from imaging reports to inform and improve surveillance efforts, and to build a prospective abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) registry.

• Collaborative Patient-Centric Research Award: The team of Dr. Ron Renzi, Dr. Paul J. DiMuzio, Dr.  Neva White, Dr. Huanmei Wu, Dr. Susan VonNessen-Scanlin, Dr. Olamide Alabi, Dr. Carl Yang, and Dr. Julia Glaser for their project, “Piloting a Multi-State Leg Amputation Analysis to Target Interventions Addressing PAD/CLTI.” The team aims to identify high-amputation zip codes to focus outreach in at-risk areas, leading to fewer amputations, better outcomes, and a model for broader prevention efforts.

We remain steadfast in our mission to propel high-impact research that improves patient outcomes. These awardees exemplify the cutting-edge potential of digital health to revolutionize vascular care. Through AI-driven surveillance and comprehensive amputation data analysis, we are one step closer to ensuring that all patients—regardless of socioeconomic status or geographic location—receive equitable, life-saving vascular care.

We look forward to collaborating with these research teams throughout their journey, supporting their efforts beyond the grant period, and championing the translation of their findings into scalable, real-world solutions. Together, we are advancing the future of vascular health.
