VeeJay’s PAD diagnosis came as a complete shock at age 46, as she was slim, active, and a regular gym-goer, though she had been a smoker for more than 30 years. After developing leg fatigue, cramping, numbness, and hip pain, she researched her symptoms herself and pushed for further testing despite initial doubts from her doctors. An ABI test and vascular scan ultimately confirmed PAD. Since her diagnosis, VeeJay has committed herself to walking, hiking, and mountain climbing to challenge her claudication symptoms, while also quitting smoking immediately after her diagnosis and remaining smoke-free ever since. Her determination has led her to climb some of the highest mountains in England, Wales, Scotland, Madeira, and Spain, complete the 214 Wainwrights challenge, and finish the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge four times. She describes herself as happier than ever, embracing every opportunity and living life to the fullest. The support group has provided valuable exercise tips, encouragement, and a community of supportive members who reinforce her positive mindset and commitment to doing everything possible to manage her PAD.
