In her current project, “The role of microbial uremic toxins on the endothelial and smooth muscle cell regulation of neointimal formation in arteriovenous fistulas,” Dr. Gaines is investigating how microbial byproducts influence vascular health and dialysis access outcomes with the potential to directly impact the lives of dialysis patients by reducing complications and improving treatment efficacy.
