CHAMPIONS Screening Clinic

CHAMPIONS screenings consist of five stations staffed by trained volunteers, including physicians, medical students, pre-medical students, patient-advocates, and community advocates.

Stations

  • Intake: Gathering patients' demographic information and health history to establish a baseline.

  • Point-of-Care Testing: Conducting fingerstick testing to assess HbA1c and lipid panel levels, offering insights into metabolic health.

  • Vitals: Measuring height, weight, and blood pressure to evaluate cardiovascular risk factors and overall health.

  • TBI (Toe Brachial Index): Assessing toe pressure to screen for peripheral artery disease, which is often linked to cardiovascular health complications and amputations.

  • Educational and Awareness Materials: Providing personalized health education based on the patient's assessment results. Topics Include diabetes, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and peripheral artery disease. Volunteers also offer guidance on health insurance and connect patients with local primary care providers and clinics for further care. These materials have been translated into seven languages.
