Charles Adams

Charles (Chuck) Adams is the Chief Financial Officer at Manna Energy Limited and a renowned speaker on international finance at conferences sponsored by organizers as diverse as the Institute for Banking Studies in Kuwait and Cisco Systems. Previously, he was the Chief Financial Officer of BioPro Pharmaceutical, Inc., a specialty pharmaceuticals company focused on underserved regions of Asia. Educated at the University of Virginia and the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, Mr. Adam's international corporate experience includes being Chief Financial Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of United Medical Industrial Group, a San Francisco-based pharmaceuticals company with three joint venture operations in China. Mr. Adam's passion for improving the treatment of vascular disease is due to both his family history (both parents died of vascular-related issues), and his conviction that vascular disease, a leading cause of death, is drastically underfunded.

 

James R. Bancroft

James R. Bancroft, a former partner in Bancroft & McAlister Attorneys at Law in San Francisco, is President and a trustee of the Harvey L. Sorensen and Maud C. Sorensen Foundation and a director of the California Urology Foundation. He is a former trustee and vice president (1952-94) of The Dean Witter Foundation. Mr. Bancroft was Chairman of United Nuclear Corporation from 1972-1982 and Madison Capital, Inc. from 1986-1993. He has been a Director of Vascular Cures since 1991 and served as Chairman from 1992 through 1999. Over 35 years ago, Mr. Bancroft was diagnosed with vascular disease and attributes his health to the advances made by vascular research.

 

Russell Bromley, Chairman

Russell (Rusty) Bromley founded TRAC Consulting to assist non-profit medical research organizations in Translational Research Acceleration via Collaboration. He specializes in designing and implementing strategic plans and collaborative operational models. He served for seven years as the Chief Operating Officer of the Myelin Repair Foundation, where he was instrumental in the creation and evolution of the Accelerated Research Collaboration™ model. Mr. Bromley joined Vascular Cures to build this model in another disease area, believing that far more innovation is needed given the prevalence of cardiovascular disease. Mr. Bromley's expertise includes the creation and protection of innovative technologies, business development, and marketing strategy for high tech and life sciences. Previously, he served as CEO of LabVelocity, Inc., an internet information portal for the life science research community, and CEO of Berkshire Holding Corporation, a privately-held, multinational manufacturer of contamination control materials for microelectronics and pharmaceutical production.

 

Dr. Michael S. Conte, Chief Medical Officer

Michael S. Conte , MD is the Chief Medical Officer of Vascular Cures, Professor and Chief of the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at UCSF and Co-Director of the UCSF Heart and Vascular Center. Previously, he was the Associate Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School and Director of Vascular Surgery Research at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston. He was also Co-Director of the Clinical Trials Group at the Center for Surgery and Public Health, a joint initiative of Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and the Harvard School of Public Health. He has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, as well as numerous book chapters and reviews. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the Society for Vascular Surgery and has served on the scientific advisory board of several biotechnology/pharmaceutical companies. He served as an Associate Editor for Circulation, and is currently on the editorial boards of the Journal of Vascular Surgery, Vascular Medicine, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, and Vascular.

 

Laura N. Dietch

Laura N. Dietch is a business leader with more than twenty-five years of senior executive experience in the medical device industry.  Ms. Dietch began her interventional vascular career at Advanced Cardiovascular Systems (later Guidant) and was subsequently a member of the senior management teams at Progressive Angioplasty Systems (acquired by US Surgical) and LuMend (acquired by JNJ).  She was VP Global Marketing for Medtronic Vascular with responsibility for cardiovascular, peripheral vascular, neurovascular and AAA/TAA products.  Ms. Dietch is presently providing strategic and operating consulting to early stage technology and leading interventional vascular companies, and was previously Acting CEO for Amaranth Medical, a developer of fully bioresorbable stents.  She sits on the Medical Devices Committee of Life Science Angels, a prominent Silicon Valley investing group and is past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Silicon Valley Division of the American Heart Association.  She received her MBA and her MSc from the University of California at Berkeley. 

 

Tarek M. Ebeid

Tarek M. Ebeid is an Audit Partner at KPMG LLP and leads the firm’s Financial Services practice in the San Francisco Bay Area. Mr. Ebeid is a firm designated Securities and Exchange Commission reviewing partner. Mr. Ebeid has 21 years of experience principally serving financial services public companies. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. He has served as a national instructor for KPMG’s educational programs and has received several national instructor excellence awards. Mr. Ebeid joined Vascular Cures’ Board of Directors because he strongly believes that its unique and innovative approach to vascular research will lead to better diagnosis, improved treatments and cures.

 

Michael W. Hall, Vice-Chairman

Michael W. Hall is a Partner at the international law firm of Latham & Watkins. Mr. Hall leads the medical technology practice in the firm’s Silicon Valley office, represents emerging growth companies, both public and private, and has broad experience in venture capital financing, mergers and acquisitions and public securities. He also represents underwriters in public offerings and venture capitalists in private equity financings and has taught classes at Stanford and the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to joining Latham & Watkins, Mr. Hall was a founder and Director of the Venture Law Group and partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. Because of a family history of cardiovascular disease, he joined Vascular Cures’ Board of Directors in 2010. Mr. Hall has served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Silicon Valley American Heart Association.

 

Eric J. Hall

Eric J. Hall, CFA joined the board of Vascular Cures after having a heart attack cause by a blocked artery. Mr. Hall is a veteran financial executive with venture capital investing and management experience. He is currently a Principal with the Financial Leadership Group, LLC, and previously a Partner and Chief Financial Officer of McKenna Capital LLC in San Francisco. He served as a consultant with Arthur Andersen & Co., as Principal Planner for Amdahl Corporation, and as VP and Portfolio Manager with Wells Fargo Bank, Private Banking. Mr. Hall is a Chartered Financial Analyst and member of the Security Analysts of San Francisco, the CFA Institute, and Financial Executives International

 

Wendy R. Hitchcock, Chief Executive Officer

Wendy R. Hitchcock is the Chief Executive Officer at Vascular Cures and Director of Mercator MedSystems. Previously, Ms. Hitchcock consulted to the Clinical and Translational Science Institute at the University of California, San Francisco and was the Chief Business Officer and Executive VP of Mercator MedSystems, a medical technology company focused on vascular disease. Ms. Hitchcock has 25 years of experience building and financing companies, including 20 years in the life sciences. She was CEO of LabVelocity, Senior VP Finance at Affymax, CFO at ACLARA BioSciences, and CFO for SyStemix, a pioneering stem cell company.

Ms. Hitchcock knows firsthand the importance of research to treat vascular disease. She was born with an arteriovenous malformation in her brain, which was successfully treated with medication and surgery.

 

Virginia Madden

Virginia Madden first joined Vascular Cures’ Board of Directors in 1998. She has had extensive involvement in community service projects in the East San Francisco Bay area. She actively participates in many community organizations and charities and manages the family’s personal charity. A former teacher, Mrs. Madden is also concerned with the needs of children who have conditions that are disabling or who suffer from parental abuse. While in her early 40’s, Mrs. Madden was at risk of a stroke and received treatments for a blocked carotid artery. She credits vascular research with enabling her to live a vibrant life over the last several decades.

 

Dr. Ronald J. Stoney, Co-Founder

Ronald J. Stoney, M.D. is emeritus professor of surgery at UCSF. In 1982, he co-founded the Pacific Vascular Research Foundation, now Vascular Cures, to improve patient care and prevent death and disability from vascular disease. That same year, he and an engineer colleague began the development of a self-retaining surgical retractor, the Omni-Tract that is now being used in surgical operations around the world. He served as president of the International Society for Cardiovascular Surgery, North American Chapter, and the Western Vascular Society. Dr. Stoney has received numerous awards, including the Society for Vascular Surgery's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007, and Honorary Doctor of Science degrees from the University of Ferrara, Italy in 1996 and from Santa Clara University, CA in 2008. He has lectured around the world, has published more than 100 book chapters and over 150 peer-reviewed articles, and authored and co-authored 9 books on vascular surgery: 2 manuals, 6 atlases and another on vascular exposures.
